7. - Silvester's Method.

(a) Induce inspiration.- Kneel at a convenient distance behind the patient's head and grasping his forearms just below the elbows, draw the arms upwards, outwards, and towards you, with a sweeping movement, making the elbows touch the ground. The cavity of the chest is thus enlarged, and air is drawn into the lungs.
(b) Induce expiration.- Bring the patient's flexed arms slowly forwards, downwards and inwards, press the arms and elbows firmily on the chest on each side of the breast-bone. By this means air is expelled from the lungs.
